Leelai is a Tamil romantic comedy film directed by Andrew Louis and produced by V. Ravichandran of Aascar Films, Chennai. It stars newcomers Shiv Pandit and Manasi Parekh Gohil in lead roles along with Santhanam and Suhasini Raju in supporting roles. Production on the film began in May 2008 and it is scheduled to release on April 27th 2012.

Andrew Louis started his career as an associate director and assisted S. J. Surya for almost six years. During his stint as an associate, he worked on films like Vaali, Khushi (shot in three languages – Tamil, Telegu & Hindi), New & Naani. Post his tenure as an associate director, Andrew Louis took some time out to pen the script of Leelai. He then approached V. Ravichandran of Aascar Films, the producer of successful films like Anniyan, Dasavathaaram & the recent Velayudham and narrated the script of Leelai with the latter agreeing to produce the film, two months later. The film ran into a legal battle over it’s title Leelai in 2008. V. Ravichandran the producer of Leelai, eventually won the case, resulting in the other film changing its title from Leelai to Naan Aval Adhu. The film has been ready for release since 2010 and is slated for a 2012 release.

The director selected North Indian actor Shiv Pandit in the lead role after seeing him in an advertisement for a mobile phone company, Airtel. After Shiv Pandit was signed on, he practised his Tamil dialogues by reading them repeatedly, thereby understanding the emotions and punches. He also watched a lot of Tamil films to get attuned to the language and culture. In June 2011, Shiv Pandit made his Hindi debut in the multiple award winning film Shaitan. Shiv’s performance in the film lead to him being nominated for the ‘Best Male Debut’ of the year (2011) in prestigious award shows. The female lead in the film is played Manasi Parekh Gohil who has been part of popular shows on Television such as Star One’s India Calling and Star Plus’s Gulaal. Her recent success was being adjudged the winner of Zee Tv’s singing reality show ‘Star Ya Rockstar’ in 2011.
The film also stars one of South India’s leading comedians Santhanam.
